UN WOMEN Gender Perspective Seminar in the Republic of Serbia

 The Ministry of Defense, in cooperation with the UN WOMEN Office in the Republic of Serbia, conducted a seminar for ten students, personnel of the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Armed Forces entitled "Gender Equality in the Security Sector" in the period from 1st to 3rd December 2021 in Hotel Izvor in Arandjelovac, Serbia.

The aim of the seminar was to improve the existing knowledge of participants, based on UN Security Council Resolution 1325 - Women, Peace and Security, the Law on Gender Equality of the Republic of Serbia and the Gender Equality Strategy 2021-2030, which empower women for better representation, involvement and decision-making in all processes related to peacekeeping and security, as well as development of prevention mechanisms to increase safety of women in peace, conflict and post-conflict reconstruction of society, in crisis and emergency situations.

On behalf of the Ministry of Defense, the seminar was opened by Snezana Vasic, Adviser to the Minister of Defense for the National Action Plan for the Implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 in the MoD and the SerbianArmed Forces, and Colonel Robert Kordik,  Director of the Directorate for European Integration and Project Management.

On behalf of the UN WOMEN Office in the Republic of Serbia, the Head of the Office, Ms. Milana Rikanović, addressed the audience, emphasizing that the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Armed Forces have achieved significant results in the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 from 2022 to 2025, which resulted in more participation and visibility of women in the defense system and security sector. She also stated that this year the Government of the Republic of Serbia adopted a set of laws and strategies related to the promotion of gender equality and protection against discrimination, and it is very important to increase funding to achieve the set goals in these fields.
